A Foster Shower for our Friends! | It Takes A Village

Our beautiful friends, Morgan and TJ, have made the incredible decision to become foster parents. When Morgan first told me, I was floored – so overwhelmed with joy for her! As she spoke about the future and the potential challenges that await them on their journey, my heart swelled because I knew that she and TJ are exactly the kind of people made for this. Their hearts are full of so much love just waiting to be poured out on these children. I was so honored and excited to throw this sweet foster shower for them. Thank you to Victorian Gardens for providing the incredible florals and greenery for the food table! Thank you to Will Hill for providing the beautiful hydrangea arrangements!

Foster showers aren’t something you can easily google and find a lot of inspiration for. Foster showers are something I hope pick up more momentum in the future, as foster parents are every bit (if not more) as much in need of help when it comes to the overwhelming amount of preparations needed to house a child! Preparing for a baby is easy – you know what sizes you need and exactly how much. However, with foster parents like Morgan and TJ, who have opened up their home to children ages 0-12, the preparation process is a little less clear! They’ll need to have items ready for children of all ages, who could arrive at any time, day or night! With all of these challenges, Morgan and TJ deserved to have their village come together to shower them with love and support! As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child!

Here are a few pictures from the shower!

shower_003Morgan and TJ LOVE gnomes, so we made sure to incorporate them into their fairy village!shower_004shower_005shower_006shower_008shower_009

shower_010I got this adorable plank at Hobby Lobby, then practiced my cursive all over it! shower_011Since many of their purchases will have to be made after they’ve been placed, Morgan and TJ registered for gift cards in lieu of a traditional registry.shower_013We made some yummy Mexican Avocado Shrimp bites! Basically some seasoned shrimp with guac on a potato chip! They guests LOVED them. You can get the recipe here.
shower_015My mother in law made us these ADORABLE mushroom top cupcakes that fit so well with the fairy village theme! She also makes amazing cookies out of her cookie shop in Lawrence. Go visit Eileen’s Colossal Cookies STAT.
shower_017shower_018shower_020shower_021shower_022shower_023We gave out flowers from the “village garden” as party favors. It was such a fun and pretty way to illustrate the idea of a growing family and all the community it takes to succeed!shower_024shower_025Since foster showers are not very common, we had to put a creative spin on some traditional baby shower games!shower_026shower_027shower_028shower_029shower_030shower_031 shower_033shower_034shower_035shower_036shower_037shower_038shower_039shower_040shower_041shower_042shower_043shower_044shower_045Part of the reason we threw this shower was so that Morgan and TJ could have a chance to talk about the unique challenges and situations they may find themselves in as foster parents, and how we as their village could support them in those times. To lead into the conversation, we played trivia themed towards little known facts about foster parenthood!
